About This Event
This course examines the correlation and dramatically higher risk of suicidality among clients in treatment for substance abuse. Participants will learn to identify direct and indirect risk factors, protective factors, and the GATE procedure for substance abuse counselors. The course covers competencies for addressing suicidal thoughts and behaviors, includes six vignettes demonstrating treatment approaches, and provides strategies for preparing substance abuse professionals to recognize and respond to suicidality in their client populations.
